We had to buy a few of these because our cat was really sick for about 4 months right before he, unfortunately, passed away. He threw up at least 3-4 times a week (the poor little guy) and he wanted to stay on our bed all the time (and we let him, because he was an amazing little guy that we loved SO, SO MUCH). The problem was that we didn't want the mattress to get ruined. He didn't just hunch over and spit out his food when he threw up like a lot of other cats, he threw up like the exorcist (I joke but it wasn't funny at the time). He'd throw up a lot of water as well as his food, and it went aaaall over the place (again, poor little guy). We tried a few other so called 'waterproof animal blankets', but they really weren't waterproof at all. Does anyone else's cat come and get them and say, "Hey Mom, hey Dad, I threw up on the bed. Can you go clean it up please?"... No, they don't, lol. So sometimes you just don't see it immediately and get to clean it up right away. Now, I'm not going to lie, if you leave it too long, of course it's going to go through whatever you have down (unless it's plastic, which we did eventually end up putting down towards the end). But for the most part, this waterproof blanket was by far the best one we found, especially because they're also washable. So it was possible to clean it up/off a couple or a few times before switching it out for another clean one. I'd just clean up/off the throw up with paper towels, then I'd use like a scrubbing brush with a little soap on it and get anything else off, put a few paper towels on it to dry it, and it'd be good to go, all clean, no more stink, and then after he got sick a couple/few times, we'd switch it out with another clean one. And then, like I already said, they're able to be washed in the regular washer %26 dryer. I'd say that it took a good 15 minutes before anything would actually start to go through it and start getting whatever's under it damp. But you know what? When your cat/dog is sick like that, it doesn't (shouldn't) take that long to realize they've gotten sick like that. It didn't matter if I was all the way across the house... I ALWAYS heard my baby boy (my cat) when he got sick to his belly. And this waterproof blanket saved us A LOT of trouble, at a time when all our attention was focused on our furbaby more than ever, and probably saved us from having to buy a new mattress too. 5 stars from this family, for sure!!
