I could have gotten a shorter thinner pad but that's on me. I bought this to plump up an old sofa cushion and it's fabulous. I forgot I got it so it was in the garage for a while so I don't know if there is a smell if it's opened right away but I'm super sensitive to smells and I didn't detect anything. I will use the extra length to redo a chair cushion. Will buy more if I can.
