The chairs are very sturdy and heavy. The seat and back are large, well-padded and comfortable. The wood is real and beautiful. Read the directions prior to assembling and the process will go smoothly. I'm a 65 yr old woman and assembled one in less than 30 minutes. (Two chairs were purchased.)
