shade on my hurricane lamp broke. It was cheaper to buy this whole lamp than to purchase the glass globe separately . I keep these oil lamps around in case of a power outage. It's easier to light one of these lamps than to find out the battery has gone dead on battery operated lamps. This lamp looks decorative sitting out on a shelf with a lighter kept close by so I know where it is at all times if power goes out during the night.

I bought this lamp for use when the electricity doesn't work due to storms. This lamp looks nice and is very easy to use. Fill it with smoke-free lamp oil at least a day before you plan to use it. That way, the lamp oil will have enough time to soak into the wick. When you light the wick, turn the adjustment knob so that only a small amount of wick is showing. Otherwise, the lamp will create a lot of smoke. I used to own a couple hurricane lanterns. Although they are nice, they are a bit more difficult to refill and clean. This oil lamp is a better choice if strong winds are not a concern.
