The Best of the Mint series was created by the United States Mint to highlight some of the most legendary coin designs ever produced in American numismatics. Selected through public voting and expert recommendations, the series features reissued 24-karat gold tributes paired with newly designed silver companion medals that reinterpret the original themes for modern collectors. The first release in the program revisits Adolph A. Weinman’s famous Winged Liberty Head design, widely known as the Mercury Dime, which circulated from 1916 through 1945. Throughout its circulation, the Mercury Dime witnessed some of the most transformative events in American history, including the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and both World Wars.

Gold Coin Design: The obverse features Liberty wearing a winged cap with inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1916,” and a special Liberty Bell “250” privy mark. The reverse displays a fasces, an olive branch, and inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DIME.”

Silver Medal Design: The obverse shows a powerful modern vision of Liberty inspired by the classic Mercury design. Wearing a winged cap and scale-style armor, Liberty leans forward in motion, gripping a broadsword with both hands. The reverse continues the sword motif, with its point projecting across the design and bursting into radiant sun-like rays. Above are the dates 1916–1945, honoring the Mercury Dime era. Below, a changing American landscape unfolds—from a windmill and wheat fields to factories, smokestacks, and tall city buildings
