"Loud" this is not! Won't hear the alarm out of the room even with open doors. Setting the countdown timer is very tricky, and convoluted. The Hour button toggles between "group" 1 or 2 (there are 2 timers). Not until you set the Minutes and Seconds values does the Hour button then become enabled to set the hours. That means you cannot set the timer for, say, 2 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds, but something like 2 hours 0 minutes 1 seconds. Took a long time to figure out. The instructions on one side of a 2" x 4.25" bit of fragile paper are in very tiny print with very little contrast (light gray text on white). You'll never read the instructions without a lighted magnifying glass. They definitely wanted to save a tenth of a cent on paper and ink. The shelf box was slightly squashed due to shipping in a paper envelope. Otherwise, no damage to box; however, there were 2 scratches in the display yet there were no cuts in the plastic view port in the shelf box. There is no clear film on the display to protect it from scratches, so the scratches were there during manufacture, or this unit was not new as claimed. Between the low volume and convoluted means of setting the hour for a timer, I'm not wasting a battery on this unit. I'll save the battery for a better choice. Back to looking for a timer that counts higher than 99 minutes, and one that can be heard above a TV or into the next room. And no damage. Oh, and the magnet is way too weak to stick this to the vertical side of a microwave oven, range, range hood, or fridge. Be prepared to use up some counter or drawer space to stow this item.
