This is an excellent under the counter designed icemaker, but it can also stand alone if you don’t have a slot under your counter. The front side/door is stainless steel and the two sides are black so it looks great standing alone. Inside is a standard icemaker as you would find inside a refrigerator freezer and makes half moon ice cubes. One thing to note is it is like a mini freezer but it keeps the compartment at around 25°F just below freezing versus your standard freezer where it keeps it 0°F. With this in mind if you don’t use your ice for a long time, sometimes the ice cubes start sticking together slightly, but it comes with a ice scoop and you merely have to just take the scoop and hit the ice cubes a little bit with the ice scoop, and they all separate again easily. This is perfect for Home use It’s not one of those commercial type icemakers that makes ice continuously, and where you need a drain. This one is drain less, all you need is a water supply. It comes with approximately 8 foot of icemaker 1/4 inch hose and a connector. Assuming you already have an icemaker connection under your sink. If this is a new installation, then you would have to do a little plumbing yourself to get the water supply, but if this is a replacement icemaker and that’s already set up it’s simple to install. After first installing it, it took about 30 hours to fill up the giant 22 pound container. One thing to know that wasn’t described in the product description is that this icemaker mini freezer is not self defrosting, the instructions inside the front door indicate that it should be defrosted every 3 to 4 months depending on the humidity in your house. But that looks like a simple process as the cooling element is clearly visible, and you simply have to remove the ice bin and simply turn the unit off with the door open for an hour with a towel underneath to catch any of the frost that melts. Not a big deal. This is like what freezers used to be like but it’s so small and simple to defrost.
