The sifting part does not work. when you go to sift the nasty litter goes everywhere. So I removed that part and did away with it. I'm using it like a plain litter box and my cats love it that way that's why I gave it five stars initially. if you're buying this for the sifting feature you probably won't like it.

The best part of this litter box is that I can thoroughly clean it without my cat ever being without a litter box. I pull out the top basket, letting the litter sift into the box below, take that top one outside and wash it well. Once it dries, I bring it back in, take out the second basket, put the first one into the remaining basket and add fresh litter. Then take the second basket outside, empty it and wash it, and once dry bring it back in and put it on the bottom of the stack of three. Cat pee smells pretty bad, so being able to clean the litter box without the cat ending up peeing in a corner while the box is being cleaned makes this box a winner.
