Soft and stays put! I've put this in my entryway “temporarily” but have ended up enjoying it there, it catches dust and dirt when we come in the front door but doesn't look dirty. It's great because it stays put, I've struggled with rugs and runners intended for entryway due to the rambunctious dog.
