MODX M8 88-Key Synthesizer

For players who demand the authentic touch of an acoustic piano with the power of modern synthesis, Yamaha’s MODX M8 88-key synthesizer delivers a rare balance of realism and creative range. Designed for pianists, composers and performers who bridge traditional technique with contemporary production, the MODX M8 builds on Yamaha’s acclaimed MODX+ line with three advanced sound engines—AN-X, FM-X and AWM2—that merge analog warmth, digital precision and lifelike acoustic detail. Its graded hammer-action keybed responds with true piano feel, while USB MIDI 2.0 connectivity, a built-in 4-output/10-input audio interface and Super Knob control make it a fully integrated performance and production centerpiece.

Three Engines, Infinite Inspiration

At the heart of the MODX M8 are three complementary sound engines that work together seamlessly:

• AN-X: Recreates vintage analog behavior with pulse-width modulation, voltage drift and filter shaping for authentic warmth.
• FM-X: Provides cutting-edge, harmonically rich FM synthesis for evolving modern tones.
• AWM2: Delivers ultrarealistic sampled instruments with up to 128 elements per part for expressive acoustic depth.

Together, these engines supply up to 268 notes of polyphony and roughly double the memory of previous MODX models, ensuring expansive layering and fluid, dropout-free performance.

Real-Time Control for Expressive Play

Eight faders, six display knobs and Yamaha’s signature Super Knob let you shape and blend tones instantly. Dedicated Part and Scene buttons make performance changes seamless, while the Motion Control engine introduces evolving modulation and dynamic motion to every sound. High-resolution control across pitch bend, mod wheel and Super Knob captures every nuance of touch—ideal for expressive soloing or intricate live control.

Seamless Workflow and DAW Integration

With USB MIDI 2.0 and an integrated 4-output/10-input audio interface, the MODX M8 streamlines recording and production. Track multiple channels directly into your DAW, manage complex routing through one connection, and use Yamaha’s free Expanded Softsynth Plugin (ESP) to mirror the MODX M hardware inside your software for full editing, automation and recall. Whether capturing a piano performance or layering synth textures, your workflow remains fast and intuitive.

Graded Hammer Action With Professional Feel

The 88-key graded hammer action keybed delivers heavier response in the lower register and a lighter touch up high—mirroring the natural feel of an acoustic grand. Textured key surfaces maintain grip and comfort through long sessions, while the balanced chassis combines durability with portability for touring and studio work alike. Weighing roughly 29 pounds, the MODX M8 strikes the perfect middle ground between realism and mobility.

Yamaha’s Legacy of Innovation

From the revolutionary DX7 to today’s Montage and MODX M series, Yamaha has shaped the sound of modern music for decades. The MODX M8 continues that lineage—uniting piano craftsmanship with next-generation synthesis and workflow integration. For pianists seeking a single instrument that captures both acoustic authenticity and limitless sonic exploration, the MODX M8 marks the next bold chapter in Yamaha’s legacy of sound design.
