About this item

Product details

The Ozark Trail Timber is a small-frame 27.5 in mountain bike sized for riders from 5 ft 0 in to 5 ft 6 in, making it a practical choice for shorter-stature adult riders looking at everyday trail and off-road riding. It is built around a lightweight aluminum hardtail frame with a tapered headtube for a trail-focused setup, paired with an SR Suntour front suspension fork at the front end. That fork works together with the 27.5 in wheels and wider 27.5 in x 2.3 in tires for the bike's stated off-road use. For changing terrain, the Timber uses front and rear mechanical disc brakes and a 1 x 8 MTB drivetrain with a handlebar-mounted Micro-shift trigger shifter, so you can shift gears as the trail rises and falls. A padded MTB saddle and adjustable seat height give you a fit-adjustment point once you've chosen this small-frame variant, letting you fine-tune the seat for each ride.

Solid bike for the price. I don't mountain bike with it but run around town for exercise and it works great. I did replace the pedals with $20 focker pedals and but urban style tires on continental double fighters V3 about $40 a tire. I replaced the handle bars that are steal with Wake brand aluminum handle bars $30 and also replaced the seat post which was steal and very short with a aluminum one that cost like $9. All these changes are not a must besides the pedals, but do make the bike even nicer.

one week in - bike rides like a comparable $800 trek/mongoose --- $500 savings is worth an extra few pounds

Walmart assemblers don't care

It is really hard to say if this bike is any good or not. What I can say is don't have Walmart assemble it. Tires were flat (18 psi). No manual was given for adjustments. The disc brakes were not aligned. The derailleur made lots of noise and would sometimes shift a gear on its own. These problems might have been able to be fixed with a manual. Nothing online at Ozark either, just generic. I also wanted to raise the handlebars or get a longer stem, but Walmart assembly stripped the main screw. I realize they assemble hundreds of bikes, but they could at least pump up the Presta valves. BTW, I paid for the owner's manual that you threw away. Took the bike back and ordered a different brand that I will assemble myself.
