Very nice cover. It will keep the iPad safe from scratches and minor bumps. Not sure how much protection it would provide in a bad fall, but a child is not using this iPad. One minor negative is that there is not much space to get your finger on the spot to unlock the iPad with your fingerprint, but once you find the sweet spot it does work.

Great case but fingerprints show on everything

It is a really nice case and fits great. The price on sale makes it a really good value. The reason I don't give it 5 stars across the board is the material it is made from is a fingerprint and grease magnet. You will have to wipe it down pretty much every time you pick it up unless you don't mind the smudged, greasy look.
