This Grain Mill Attachment for KitchenAid standing mixers is everything I expected and better than I assumed. I noted some reviews mentioning a concern about the metal used in this construction. I have to disagree. This grinder is most definitely aluminum die cast, but there is warning ⚠️ on washing this grinder in the instructions. The aluminum alloy is not dishwasher safe and the burr and shoot are really not supposed to be exposed to oils, soaps or fluids. There is a brush included for cleaning the tough grooves and simple wiping down is all that is needed for this attachment. I will also warn against a recipe in the instruction manual. It booklet is fine but there are 2 included recipes. One recipe, Jalapeno Cornbread, calls for fresh or canned corn. You can't actually process the corn, as instructed, with this attachment nor the KitchenAid branded grinder either. You can make corn meal from dried or nixtamalized corn but fresh corn has too much moisture. Grinder mills are for low oil, dried and tender grains; wheat berries, Sorghum, Rye, Buckwheat, Rice and many other whole grains are the perfect start to a home processed flour. The sheer amount of control you have over the ingredients of your food when you make your ingredients is phenomenal. There is no room for contamination to pass a factory inspection. Commercially purchased flours are allowed a fractional percentage of non-flour product in their finished process. I know that those small shifts to cleaner foods make a massive impact on health. My daughter and I have both explored anti-inflammatory diets together in an effort to eat our medicine with autoimmune issues. I am impressed with the quality, and my husband was first to comment that it was not a cheap synthetic metal, which gives me confidence in rebutting the other reviews that doubted it's stability. It is crucial that you care for this piece and it will serve you well. We use our power blender for oat and chickpea flour, and while this product will grind your whole groats, it's not recommended for steel cut or instant oats nor chickpeas. The set up is very intuitive and straightforward, especially if you use your KitchenAid with other attachments. The burr grinder level will take some practice in getting correct for your chosen grain and I do suggest doing a deep dive on social media for grain grinding tips and tricks - sifting, grinder levels, storage and best result approaches are widely available with a lot of people bringing the supply chain a bit more within their control. Whole grains can store in proper low oxygen mylar storage for several decades. Ground? max 6 mos storage. Having a pantry that you can easily access shelf stable products on demand is a huge step towards independence from factory food processing. I highly recommend this item whether you are starting to homestead or just want to dabble in clean eating - This was the perfect choice for my family of 4 and I am excited about the changes it will bring.

It is easy to attach. I can now grind my corn grains into Polenta, my Barley into barley flour. my coffee beans into expresso size. This is made well, very sturdy and grinds well to the size I want. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to grind their own wheat into flour or go the homemade natural route. 5 out 5 stars. Priced well.
