Much better than the other shirts I bought

The face protector is awesome whether it's up or it's down. When it's down, it's like a turtleneck which protects the back of your neck. And when both it and the hood are up, and you're wearing shield-type sunglasses, and using the thumbholes, everything is covered but your fingers.
