In a well-ventilated area, mix equal amounts of CLR and warm water. Test on a hidden area before applying to the entire surface, Apply directly to the stain with a brush, cloth, or sponge. After 2 minutes, rinse promptly with cold water. Never leave CLR on an area for longer than two minutes. Never mix CLR with other household cleaners or bleach. Always read the manufacturer's directions of the item you will be cleaning to make sure that this product is compatible. Consumer discretion is always advised. CLR may etch older sinks, tubs, and tiles. Avoid contact with wood, clothing, wallpaper, and carpeting. Some laminated surfaces (counter tops) are coated with a synthetic surface which may be affected by rust removes; clean spills immediately.

This is a must-have in any household. CLR removes calcium, lime and rust buildup quickly with very little scrubbing required. The toilet had a substantial build-up of some brownish substance that was not human waste. It was unsightly. Scrubbing the bottom the bowl didn't reduce the amount of the build-up. But, after sponging out the bowl so that it was virtually dry, I poured CLR into the bowl and let it sit there for a few hours. Upon the subsequent flush, some of the build-up went away. I took 3 additional treatments, but, all of the brownish build-up was removed, and the toilet was as good as new. So, I now keep some of it handy.
