Plug in power is the way to go. My dog is not afraid of it. I let her smell it several times while off, and then again several times, once I turned it on. She had been groomed before. I have a doodle and it cut through here hair with ease. I only did a quick job the first time as all was going well. Will come back again in a week or two. Stayed away from her head until she becomes more acquainted with the process. It comes with a 1/2" trimmer, I wish I had one a bit longer, maybe 3/4" although 1/2" was an acceptable length.

This clipper set is the best I've ever purchased anywhere. I have bought about five of them and usually I would use them once and have to throw them away because they wouldn't work at all. this set I've used three times and they still cut like they are brand new. I would highly recommend these and will but another set when these wear out. But so far they are still working great
