This is an ingenious design for a kitty litter mat! It has 2 layers so that it makes a pocket. The top layer is full of small round holes. So the litter drops through the holes into the second layer or pocket. Then when enough litter is gathered all you have to do is pick it up %26 empty the pocket! Does some litter still get scattered? Yes because sometimes my cat jumps out %26 shakes his paw or leaps over the mat altogether, BUT MUCH LESS than it would otherwise. It comes in different sizes so I suggest you buy enough length to give some jumping room. Not much can be done about paw shaking. Sometimes the litter sticks between their pads %26 they have to shake it loose, so it goes flying. And the mat is washable. The only problem so far is the mat comes folded. Its suggested to weight it down with something until the folds relax. So far im not having much luck with that.

I have four cats. If you know cats, then you know the concern would be, will they ignore the box with this under it. All four cats approve and ignore this mat! The kitten doesn't bother it either. The mat does work, but it takes a bit of trial and error to gently figure out the best way to empty this. Litter easily falls out when you begin to lift the mat. As the litter rolls to the end, static hits and litter can begin to bounce out through the holes. Overall I consider these a success as all the cats accepted the mats. I have 4 litter boxes. Just know there is a learning curve to handle it when emptying.
