Many classic PC games were designed for Windows XP, so you may be able to play them on a computer running this operating system. However, compatibility can vary depending on the game's requirements and your hardware. Some newer games may not work due to outdated drivers or missing features. If you're using a refurbished desktop with Windows XP, check the game's system requirements and consider using compatibility mode or patches provided by the game developer. Always ensure your system is secure and updated to the latest available service packs for the best experience.

Windows XP can handle basic office tasks like word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations if you use compatible software versions. Many older editions of office suites are designed to work with Windows XP. However, support for XP has ended, so newer software may not install or receive updates. For simple tasks, a refurbished Windows XP computer can be sufficient, but you may encounter limitations with modern file formats or online features. Consider your needs and whether you require up-to-date security or advanced tools before choosing Windows XP for office work.

• Install all available updates: Make sure your system has the latest service packs and security patches released before support ended.
• Use offline whenever possible: Limiting internet use reduces exposure to threats.
• Install antivirus software: Choose a program that still supports Windows XP and keep it updated.
• Back up your data: Regularly save important files to an external drive or cloud service.
• Be cautious with downloads: Only install trusted software and avoid suspicious links or email attachments.

While these steps can help, Windows XP is no longer supported, so consider upgrading for enhanced security.

Upgrading from Windows XP to a newer operating system like Windows 11 usually requires a clean installation, as direct upgrades aren't supported. Before upgrading, check your computer's hardware to ensure it meets the requirements for the new system. Back up all important files, as the process will erase existing data. You can find installation media, such as DVDs or USB drives, for newer operating systems at Walmart. If you're unsure about compatibility or the upgrade process, consider consulting a professional or using a refurbished computer that comes with a modern operating system pre-installed.

• Check hardware specs: Make sure the processor, memory, and storage meet your needs for the tasks you plan to do.
• Understand software limitations: Many modern programs and websites may not work on Windows XP.
• Look for included accessories: Some refurbished PCs come with keyboards, mice, or software discs.
• Review warranty and return policies: Walmart offers information on refurbished product warranties and returns, so check these details before purchasing.
• Consider security: Since XP is no longer supported, take extra precautions to protect your data and privacy.
