Time zone clocks make it easier to track time in different places. Depending on the style, they either show multiple times at once or let you quickly switch between zones.

• Multi-zone display: Some analog "world" clocks use multiple dials, while many digital models show several cities or zones on one screen.
• Selectable zones: Many digital clocks have a time-zone switch (e.g., ET/CT/MT/PT) for quick setup.
• Self-setting (atomic): Radio-controlled models auto-adjust for time and Daylight Saving Time when in range of a time signal.
• Helpful extras: Features can include indoor/outdoor temperature, humidity, calendar, moon phase, alarms, backlight, and large, easy-to-read displays.
• Power and placement: Options often include battery or plug-in and wall or tabletop use.

Many clocks list the four primary contiguous U.S. time zones for quick selection.

• Eastern Time (ET)
• Central Time (CT)
• Mountain Time (MT)
• Pacific Time (PT)

You may also see options for Alaska and Hawaii–Aleutian on some models. If your clock has a time zone switch, select the zone where you live before setting the time or waiting for a self-setting signal. Daylight Saving Time can vary by location, so using the clock’s DST on/off setting (when available) can help align the display with your local rules.

1. Power cycle: Remove power (unplug or take out batteries) for about a minute, then restore power.
2. Set your time zone: Use the Time Zone switch or the Settings/Mode button to choose ET/CT/MT/PT (or your local zone).
3. Adjust basics: In the settings menu, set time, date, and 12/24-hour format. If there’s a DST toggle, choose on/off based on your area.
4. For self-setting models: Place the clock near a window and leave it overnight to receive an automatic time signal.
5. If there’s an outdoor sensor: Reinsert batteries in the clock first, then the sensor to re-pair (range and channels can vary).

Steps can vary by model, so checking your manual can offer model-specific guidance.

Many self-setting (atomic) clocks use a low-frequency radio signal broadcast by a national time service to keep the time precise.

• Automatic sync: The clock listens for the time signal—often overnight when interference is lower—and updates time, date, and Daylight Saving changes.
• Time zone selection: You still choose your local zone (ET/CT/MT/PT, etc.) so the display matches your location.
• Fallback timing: If the signal isn’t received, the clock typically runs on its internal quartz timekeeping and tries again later.
• Placement matters: Proximity to windows and distance from electronics can help reception, though conditions vary by home and region.

Good placement can help a self-setting (atomic) clock receive its time signal and stay easy to read.

• Near a window: Exterior walls can improve radio reception; basements and interior rooms may be more challenging.
• Away from interference: Try not to place it right next to large appliances, metal surfaces, or electronics that may create signal noise.
• Give it time: After setup, leave the clock undisturbed overnight so it can search for the signal.
• If using a wireless sensor: Mount the sensor in a shaded, protected spot within the stated range to help temperature readings.
• Viewing comfort: Position displays at eye level and avoid direct glare to make numbers easier to read.

Results can vary by home layout and local conditions.
