St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year on March 17th to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It’s a day that’s all about Irish heritage, culture, and traditions. People often wear green, join parades, and enjoy festive gatherings. You’ll see shamrocks, leprechauns, and lots of fun themed apparel—like the St. Patrick’s Day shirts and hoodies you’ll find at Walmart. Whether you’re Irish or just love the spirit of the holiday, it’s a great time to show off your festive side!

Wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day is a tradition that goes back centuries. Green is associated with Ireland, known as the ‘Emerald Isle,’ and it’s also linked to the shamrock, which St. Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity. Plus, legend says wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns, who love to pinch anyone not sporting the color! At Walmart, you’ll find plenty of green shirts and hoodies to help you join in the fun and avoid those playful pinches.

If you’re planning to attend a Catholic mass or church service on St. Patrick’s Day, it’s a good idea to check with your local church about their dress code. Many churches welcome festive attire, especially if it’s respectful and modest. Pairing a themed shirt with jeans or slacks is usually fine, but some places may prefer more traditional outfits. When in doubt, layering your St. Patrick’s Day shirt under a jacket or sweater can keep things both festive and appropriate.

Green is the color most closely associated with St. Patrick’s Day and Irish Catholics, while orange is linked to Irish Protestants. The tradition comes from Ireland’s history, where green represents Catholicism and Irish nationalism, and orange stands for Protestantism and the legacy of William of Orange. For St. Patrick’s Day, wearing green is the go-to choice for celebrating Irish culture and Catholic heritage. You’ll find lots of green-themed apparel at Walmart to help you join the festivities.
