To find the best fit, start by checking the sizing chart provided on each product page. Measure your child's chest, waist, and height, then compare those numbers to the chart. If your child is between sizes, consider how they'll wear the jacket—layered or alone. Many softshell jackets for kids offer adjustable features like cuffs or hems, which can help with fit. If you're shopping for growing kids, a slightly larger size can offer more room for layering and longer wear.

Many kids' softshell jackets on Walmart.com are designed with water-resistant or waterproof materials, making them a practical choice for light to moderate rain. Look for jackets with hoods and sealed seams for extra protection. While softshell jackets aren't always fully waterproof like raincoats, they can help keep kids dry during outdoor play or walking to school. For heavy rain, pairing a softshell with a dedicated raincoat can offer even more coverage.

Softshell jackets are great for layering and can be worn in cooler weather, especially during fall and mild winter days. Some options include fleece lining or insulation for added warmth. For colder climates, layering a softshell jacket over sweaters or under a heavier coat can help keep kids comfortable. Always check the product description for details on insulation and intended use to match your local weather conditions.

Most kids' softshell jackets can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with cold water. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, as these can affect the jacket's water resistance and breathability. Hang the jacket to air dry rather than using high heat in the dryer. Always check the care label inside the jacket for specific instructions, since some jackets may have special cleaning requirements.
