There are several types of shelves you might come across, each designed for different uses and styles. Some common types include:

• Floating shelves: Mounted directly to the wall with hidden brackets for a sleek look.
• Wall-mounted shelves: Attached to the wall with visible brackets, often used in kitchens or garages.
• Corner shelves: Designed to fit into corners, maximizing space.
• Stackable shelves: Freestanding units that can be placed on top of each other for extra storage.
• Glass shelves: Made from tempered glass, often used in bathrooms for a modern touch.

Each type serves a unique purpose, so consider your space and storage needs when choosing.

The ideal height for hanging a single shelf depends on where and how you plan to use it. For general use, a good starting point is about 4 to 5 feet from the floor, which is roughly eye level for most people. Here are some tips:

• Above furniture: Leave at least 10-12 inches above couches or desks.
• In kitchens: Place shelves high enough to keep items accessible but clear of counters.
• Bathrooms: Over the toilet shelves are often installed 2 feet above the tank.

Always consider what you’ll store and who will use the shelf to find the best height for your space.

Floating shelves remain a popular choice for home decor thanks to their clean, modern look and versatility. They work well in almost any room, from living spaces to kitchens and bathrooms. Floating shelves are great for displaying photos, plants, or collectibles without taking up floor space. Their simple design helps rooms feel less cluttered and more open. Trends may shift over time, but floating shelves continue to be a go-to option for both style and storage.

Choosing the right shelf size starts with measuring your available wall space and considering what you want to store or display. Here’s how you can decide:

• Measure the width and depth of your wall area.
• Think about the items you’ll place on the shelf—heavier or larger items need wider and deeper shelves.
• Leave enough space between shelves if you plan to install more than one.
• Consider the room’s style and how the shelf will fit with your decor.

Taking a few moments to plan ensures your shelf fits perfectly and meets your needs.

Installing a single shelf can be straightforward with the right tools and steps. Here’s a general approach:

1. Use a level to mark where you want the shelf.
2. Find wall studs for secure mounting, especially for heavier shelves.
3. Drill pilot holes for the brackets or mounting hardware.
4. Attach the brackets or hardware, making sure they’re level.
5. Place the shelf on top and secure it as instructed.

Always follow the specific instructions included with your shelf for best results. If you’re unsure, consider asking for help at your local Walmart store or consulting a professional installer.
