When a mower is labeled as self-propelled, it means the mower moves forward on its own once you engage the drive system. You simply guide it, rather than push the full weight. This feature can make mowing easier, especially on larger or uneven lawns. Most self-propelled mowers have adjustable speed settings, so you can match the pace to your comfort level. Keep in mind, you'll still need to steer and turn the mower, but the drive system does most of the pushing for you, helping reduce fatigue during lawn care.

It's a good idea to pick up pet waste before mowing your lawn.

• Leaving it can clog the mower's blades or discharge chute, making cleanup more difficult.
• Pet waste can also spread across the yard, creating an unpleasant mess and odor.
• Removing debris helps maintain the mower's performance and keeps your lawn looking its best.

A self-propelled mower uses a built-in drive system to move forward, so you mainly guide it instead of pushing. In contrast, a push mower relies entirely on your effort to move it across the lawn.

• Self-propelled models can be easier to use on slopes or larger yards.
• They often feature variable speed controls for added comfort.
• Push mowers can be lighter and simpler, but require more physical effort.

Some lawn mowers, especially gas-powered models, can be quite loud and may contribute to hearing discomfort if used for long periods. Prolonged exposure to loud noises can sometimes lead to hearing concerns, like ringing in the ears. To help protect your hearing, consider wearing ear protection, such as earmuffs or earplugs, when mowing. If you have ongoing hearing concerns, it's best to consult with a medical professional for guidance.

Most self-propelled mowers feature a lever or dial near the wheels or deck that lets you change the cutting height.

• First, make sure the mower is turned off and on a flat surface.
• Locate the height adjustment lever—some mowers have one for each wheel, while others use a single lever for all wheels.
• Move the lever to your desired height setting, usually indicated by numbers or notches.
