Most modern answering machines let you listen to your messages remotely. Here’s how you can usually do it:

• Call your home phone number from any phone.
• When your greeting plays, press the designated remote access key (often the star * or pound # key).
• Enter your remote access code, which you set up during installation or can find in your user manual.
• Follow the voice prompts to listen, save, or delete messages.

Be sure to check your specific model’s instructions, as steps can vary. If you haven’t set a remote code yet, you’ll need to do that on your answering machine first.

If your answering machine is prompting you for a remote access code, it’s a security feature. This code helps protect your private messages from unauthorized access when you check them from outside your home. You’ll need to enter the correct code to listen to, delete, or manage your messages remotely. If you haven’t set up a code yet, check your device’s manual for instructions on how to create or reset it. Keeping your code private helps keep your messages safe.

Yes, standalone answering machines are still available for purchase. You’ll find a variety of models, including digital options with features like message guard memory, audible alerts, and remote access. Some are built into cordless phone systems, while others are separate units that connect to your landline. When shopping, consider how many messages you want to store, if you need call blocking, or if you prefer big buttons for easier use. Walmart offers a range of answering machines to fit different needs and preferences.

Setting up remote access usually involves a few simple steps:

1. Locate the remote access code setup in your answering machine’s menu or user guide.
2. Choose a code (often 2-4 digits) and enter it using the device’s keypad.
3. Save your code and test it by calling your home number from another phone.
4. When your greeting plays, press the remote access key and enter your code to check messages.

Be sure to remember your code and keep it secure. If you have trouble, refer to your answering machine’s manual for model-specific instructions.

• Remote Access: Lets you check messages when you’re away from home.
• Message Guard Memory: Keeps messages safe during power outages.
• Audible Alerts: Notifies you when new messages arrive.
• Call Blocking: Helps reduce unwanted calls.
• Easy Controls: Big buttons and clear displays make operation simpler.
