Pyrethrum is commonly used as an insecticide in gardening to help control a variety of pests. It's derived from chrysanthemum flowers and is valued for its ability to target insects like aphids, whiteflies, mites, thrips, and fungus gnats.

• It can be applied to vegetables, flowers, and houseplants.
• Pyrethrum products come in sprays, foggers, and concentrates.
• Always follow label instructions for safe and effective use.

Using pyrethrum can support healthier plants by reducing pest populations without leaving strong odors or residues.

Pyrethrum works by affecting the nervous system of insects, leading to quick knock-down and control.

• It targets flying and crawling pests, disrupting their ability to move or feed.
• Because it's contact-based, insects must come into direct contact with treated surfaces.
• Pyrethrum breaks down quickly in sunlight, so reapplication may be needed for ongoing protection.

This mode of action makes it a popular choice for gardeners looking for fast results with minimal lingering effects.

Pyrethrum is generally considered to have low toxicity for mammals, but caution is important when using it around pets.

• Keep pets away from treated areas until sprays or foggers have dried and the space is ventilated.
• Follow all product label instructions for safe use.
• If you have concerns, consult your veterinarian before applying pyrethrum products.

Taking these steps can help minimize risks and keep your pets safe during pest control treatments.

Pyrethrum is naturally found in certain chrysanthemum species, especially Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium and Chrysanthemum coccineum.

• These flowers are grown for their insecticidal properties.
• The active compounds are extracted from the flower heads.
• Gardeners sometimes plant these chrysanthemums to help deter pests naturally.

If you're interested in natural pest control, these plants can be a helpful addition to your garden.

Pyrethrum-based products are often used indoors to manage pests like flies, gnats, and roaches.

• Look for products labeled for indoor use, such as foggers or sprays.
• Ensure proper ventilation and follow safety instructions during application.
• Remove food, pets, and people from treated areas until it's safe to return.

Using pyrethrum indoors can help control infestations, but always prioritize safety and follow all directions closely.
