Most OBD2 scanners are designed for vehicles made in 1996 or later, but it's always smart to double-check compatibility.

• Check your vehicle's manual or look for an OBD2 port under the dashboard—usually near the driver's seat.
• Review the scanner's packaging or product details for a list of supported makes and models.
• Some scanners also mention compatibility with domestic, Asian, and European vehicles, so look for that info if you drive an import.

When shopping at Walmart, you can also use the product Q&A or customer reviews for real-world feedback on compatibility.

An OBD2 meter lets you get more insight into your car's health without a trip to the shop.

• Read and clear engine error codes to help identify issues.
• Check emissions readiness before a state inspection.
• Monitor real-time data like engine RPM, temperature, and more.
• Some models offer extra features like battery testing or system resets.

Using an OBD2 meter at home can help you stay on top of maintenance and make more informed decisions about repairs.

Many Bluetooth OBD2 scanners work with companion apps that you download to your smartphone or tablet.

• Check the product details to see which app is recommended or required.
• Some scanners are compatible with both iOS and Android, while others may be limited to one platform.
• Downloading the right app can unlock features like live data, code definitions, and maintenance reminders.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for pairing and setup to get the most out of your scanner.

Using an OBD2 scanner is generally straightforward, but safety matters.

• Turn off your vehicle before plugging in the scanner.
• Connect the device securely to the OBD2 port—usually under the dashboard.
• Follow the instructions for your specific scanner, especially if it requires the ignition to be in a certain position.
• Never use the scanner while driving, and avoid distractions during use.

Taking these steps can help you get accurate readings and protect both you and your vehicle.

Many OBD2 scanners offer free lifetime updates, which can add new features or improve compatibility.

• Updates are often done via Wi-Fi or by connecting the scanner to a computer.
• Check the product manual or manufacturer's website for step-by-step instructions.
• Keeping your scanner updated can help it recognize newer vehicles and provide more accurate information.

It's a good idea to update your device regularly to get the best performance and latest features.
