There are several Microsoft Office subscription options to fit different needs. You’ll find plans for individuals, families, and small businesses. Common choices include:

• Personal plans for one user, which include premium Office apps and cloud storage.
• Family plans that let up to six users share the benefits, each with their own apps and storage.
• Business and student versions with features tailored for work or school.

Each plan may offer different apps, cloud storage, and device limits, so it’s helpful to compare what’s included before deciding.

Microsoft Office subscriptions give you access to Office apps and services for a set period, usually 12 months. With a subscription, you can:

• Download and use the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.
• Get regular updates and new features automatically.
• Use cloud storage to save and access files from anywhere.
• Install Office on multiple devices, depending on your plan.

You’ll need to renew your subscription to keep using the services and benefits.

Yes, you can purchase a one-time download of Microsoft Office, often called a "perpetual license." This means you pay once and own that version for life. It’s a good option if you don’t want ongoing payments or cloud features. However, you won’t get future updates or new features—just the version you buy. You’ll find these permanent licenses available for both home and business use.

If you notice a recurring monthly charge, it’s likely tied to an active Microsoft Office subscription. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled, so you’ll be billed each month or year, depending on your plan. Sometimes, the charge could be for a bundled service that includes Office and other features like cloud storage or security tools. If you’re unsure, check your account or contact customer support for details about your subscription and billing cycle.

The main difference is how many people can use the subscription. A personal plan is for one user, giving access to premium Office apps and cloud storage for just you. A family plan covers up to six users, each with their own sign-in, apps, and storage. Family plans are great for households where multiple people need Office on their own devices. Both options include updates and cloud features, but family plans offer more flexibility for sharing.
