Strike anywhere matches can be ignited on almost any rough surface, while strike on box matches require the special strip on their packaging to light.

• Strike anywhere: Great for outdoor use, but may be less common.
• Strike on box: Safer for storage and transport, since they only ignite on the box.

To keep matches safe and dry during camping, consider these tips:

• Store matches in a waterproof container or resealable bag.
• Keep them away from direct sunlight and moisture.
• Pack them separately from flammable materials.

Long reach matches are designed to help you light grills, fireplaces, and candles safely. Their extended length lets you keep your hands further from the flame, which can be helpful when lighting hard-to-reach spots. Always follow safety instructions and avoid leaning over the grill while lighting. If you’re using them outdoors, make sure wind isn’t blowing directly onto the flame.

Match kits can be a practical addition to your emergency supplies. Many kits include waterproof containers and wind-resistant matches, making them reliable in challenging conditions.

• They’re useful for starting fires for warmth or cooking.
• Look for kits with extra safety features, like strike strips and secure lids.

After using a match, make sure it’s completely extinguished before disposal.

• Dip the used match in water or press it against a non-flammable surface.
• Dispose of cooled matches in a trash bin, away from flammable materials.
