Lighting a campfire with matches is simple, but safety comes first.

• Choose a clear spot away from flammable materials.
• Arrange your firewood and kindling so air can flow.
• Strike the match away from your body and gently touch it to the kindling.
• Keep your hand steady and avoid leaning over the fire.
• Have water or sand nearby in case you need to extinguish the fire quickly.

Always follow local regulations and never leave a fire unattended. These steps can help you enjoy your campfire responsibly.

Waterproof matches are designed to ignite even after exposure to moisture, making them ideal for camping, hiking, or emergency kits. Regular matches may not light if they get wet and are best used indoors or in dry conditions.

• Waterproof matches often come in protective cases.
• They’re great for unpredictable weather or outdoor adventures.
• Regular matches are convenient for lighting candles, fireplaces, or grills at home.

Choosing the right type depends on where and how you plan to use them.

Fire starters can be helpful for lighting charcoal grills.

• Place the fire starter under the charcoal and follow the instructions on the packaging.
• Make sure the grill is in a well-ventilated area.
• Wait until the fire starter is fully burned and the coals are ashed over before cooking.

Fire starters are designed to make lighting easier, but always use them as directed and avoid inhaling smoke. Never use flammable liquids, and keep children and pets away during lighting.

Proper storage keeps matches safe and ready to use.

• Store matches in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources and moisture.
• Keep them in their original box or a sealed container.
• Place them out of reach of children and pets.

For added safety, consider using a dedicated match holder or jar with a striker. This helps prevent accidental ignition and keeps your matches organized.

Using matches in windy conditions can be tricky, but there are ways to improve success.

• Shield the match with your hand or body to block the wind.
• Use stormproof or windproof matches if available, as they’re designed to stay lit longer.
• Strike the match quickly and bring it close to your fire source.

Be cautious and avoid lighting matches near flammable materials that could blow away. If wind is strong, consider using a utility lighter for added safety.
