Stocking caps are often called beanies, skull caps, or slouchy hats these days. You'll also see names like wave caps or knit hats depending on the style and fit. The term "stocking cap" still pops up, especially for longer, cuffed, or oversized versions. If you're shopping at Walmart, look for these names to find the right winter hat for your needs.

In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, locals known as Yoopers often call winter hats chook or toque. This term comes from Canadian English and is used for knit hats that keep your head warm in cold weather. If you're searching for a stocking cap or beanie, you might hear "chook" used in conversation, but you'll find them listed as beanies or stocking caps on Walmart's website.

• Headbands: Great for keeping ears warm without covering your whole head.
• Ear muffs: Perfect for those who want warmth and style.
• Hooded jackets: Built-in hoods can be a convenient alternative.
• Scarves: Some people wrap scarves around their heads for extra warmth.

Walmart offers a variety of accessories, so you can mix and match for comfort and style when a stocking cap isn't your first choice.

1. Use a soft measuring tape and wrap it around your head, just above your ears and eyebrows.
2. Note the circumference in inches or centimeters.
3. Check the product description for sizing details—many stocking caps are one-size-fits-most, but some offer size options for a better fit.

Measuring your head helps you find a stocking cap that's comfortable and stays in place, especially for longer or oversized styles.

Stocking caps can be a great option for people with long hair or dreadlocks. Many styles are designed with extra length or stretch, offering room and protection for locs, braids, or thick hair. Look for descriptions like "jumbo," "oversized," or "dreadlock stocking cap" to find hats that help prevent breakage and lint. Walmart carries several stocking caps that cater to different hair needs, so you can find a comfortable fit for your hairstyle.
