To check if a code reader is compatible with your Ford, look for OBD2 support and confirm your vehicle was made in 1996 or later. Most code readers on this page are designed for a wide range of Ford models, but it's a good idea to double-check the product details for specific compatibility. If your Ford has unique features or is a newer model, make sure the scanner supports those systems. You can also review the user manual or reach out to Walmart's customer service for more information before purchasing.

A Ford code reader can help you diagnose issues by reading and clearing trouble codes from your vehicle's onboard computer. Common functions include:

• Checking why the check engine light is on
• Reading and erasing diagnostic trouble codes
• Viewing live sensor data
• Monitoring battery health (on some models)

Some advanced models offer additional features like system resets or bi-directional controls. Always review the product description to see which functions are included.

Most car code readers are designed to be user-friendly, even for beginners. Typically, you just plug the device into your Ford's OBD2 port (usually under the dashboard), turn on the ignition, and follow the instructions on the screen or app. Many models come with step-by-step guides or connect to your smartphone for easier navigation. If you ever feel unsure, you can find helpful resources online or reach out to Walmart's support for guidance.

Yes, many code readers allow you to clear diagnostic trouble codes, which can turn off the check engine light. However, it's important to address the underlying issue first. Clearing the light without fixing the problem may cause it to come back. Always read the code, research what it means, and consider consulting a professional if you're unsure about the repair. Using a code reader can help you understand what's going on before visiting a mechanic.

For Bluetooth code readers, you'll usually need to download a compatible app on your smartphone or tablet. The app connects to the code reader and displays diagnostic information in an easy-to-read format. Make sure your device supports the app (iOS or Android) and check the product details for any specific app requirements. Some code readers come with free apps, while others may offer additional features through optional subscriptions.
