Floating balloons are usually referred to as helium balloons. Helium is a lighter-than-air gas that lets balloons rise and float. You’ll find a variety of floating balloons at Walmart, including latex, foil, and specialty shapes for parties and events. If you’re looking for decorations that stay airborne, check product descriptions for ‘helium-compatible’ or ‘floating’ balloons. Always follow the instructions for safe inflation and handling, especially for balloons with LED lights or unique shapes.

To make balloons float, you’ll need to fill them with helium instead of air. Helium is available in portable tanks, which you can find in the party section at Walmart. Here’s how:

1. Attach the balloon to the helium tank nozzle.
2. Slowly fill until the balloon is firm but not overinflated.
3. Tie off the balloon securely.

Some balloons, like foil or specialty shapes, may require extra care. Always check the packaging for inflation instructions and safety tips.

When you use a product called ‘Hi-Float’ in latex balloons before inflating with helium, it can help them float longer—sometimes up to several days. The actual float time depends on factors like balloon size, room temperature, and humidity. Foil balloons generally last longer than latex. For best results, store inflated balloons away from direct sunlight and sharp objects. Results may vary, so always check the instructions for your specific balloon type.

Helium is the most common and safest gas used to make balloons float. While other gases exist, they aren’t recommended for party balloons due to safety concerns and availability. Air-filled balloons won’t float unless they’re attached to a structure or used as part of a garland. If you want floating decorations, stick with helium and follow all safety guidelines provided with your balloon and tank.

LED balloons can float if they’re filled with helium and are designed for floating. However, the added weight of the LED components may affect float time or require larger balloons. Always check the product details to see if the LED balloon is helium-compatible. For best results, follow the inflation instructions and avoid overfilling. If you’re unsure, ask a Walmart associate or check the packaging for guidance.
