Sharpening your kitchen scissors can help keep them working smoothly. Some models come with a built-in sharpening sleeve—just insert the blades and gently pull them through a few times. If your scissors don’t have this feature, you can use a handheld sharpener designed for kitchen shears. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and clean the blades after sharpening. For best results, avoid using regular knife sharpeners, as they may not align with scissor blades. If you’re unsure, consider professional sharpening services to help maintain your scissors’ performance.

While some kitchen scissors are labeled as dishwasher safe, it’s generally best to hand wash them. The high heat and detergents in dishwashers can dull blades and wear down handle materials over time. To keep your scissors in top shape, wash them with warm, soapy water and dry them thoroughly. This helps prevent rust and keeps the cutting action smooth. Always check the care instructions that come with your scissors for the most accurate cleaning guidance.

Many kitchen scissors are designed to come apart for thorough cleaning. Look for a central screw or pivot point—some models allow you to separate the blades by opening them fully and pulling them apart. If your scissors don’t come apart easily, don’t force them; instead, clean around the pivot area with a brush. Always dry all parts completely before reassembling to help prevent rust and keep your scissors working smoothly.

Kitchen scissors are specially designed for food prep tasks. They usually feature sturdy stainless steel blades, comfortable grips, and sometimes extra tools like bottle openers or nutcrackers built into the handles. These features make them ideal for cutting herbs, trimming meat, or opening packaging. Regular scissors may not be strong enough for kitchen tasks and can be harder to clean thoroughly. Choosing scissors made for kitchen use can help make meal prep safer and more efficient.

Replacement parts for kitchen scissors, such as blade covers or handle sleeves, may be available depending on the model. It’s a good idea to check the packaging or product details for information about included accessories. If you need a specific part, you can contact Walmart’s customer service or visit the product page to see if replacement accessories are offered. Keeping your scissors in good condition by using covers and cleaning them properly can extend their lifespan.
