Choosing the right sponge depends on your cleaning needs. Non-scratch sponges are great for delicate surfaces like nonstick pans and glassware, while heavy-duty sponges can help tackle tougher messes on pots and pans. If you prefer eco-friendly options, look for sponges made from natural materials. Consider the size and shape, too—some sponges fit better in your hand or reach into tight spaces. Reading product descriptions and customer reviews on Walmart.com can also help you find a sponge that matches your cleaning style.

Keeping your sponges clean can help them last longer and reduce odors.

• Rinse your sponge thoroughly after each use to remove food particles.
• Squeeze out excess water and store it in a dry, well-ventilated spot.
• For extra freshness, you can occasionally soak the sponge in a mixture of water and mild dish soap, then rinse well.
• Some people also use the dishwasher’s top rack to clean sponges, but always check the product label first.

Many kitchen sponges are designed to be safe for nonstick cookware, especially those labeled as non-scratch. These sponges help clean without damaging delicate surfaces. However, it’s always a good idea to check the packaging or product details to confirm compatibility. If you’re unsure, test the sponge on a small, inconspicuous area first. Avoid using heavy-duty or abrasive sponges on nonstick surfaces, as they may cause scratches over time.

It’s generally recommended to replace your kitchen sponge every one to two weeks, depending on how often you use it and what you’re cleaning.

• If your sponge starts to smell, look worn, or fall apart, it’s time for a new one.
• Using separate sponges for dishes and other cleaning tasks can also help extend their lifespan.

Some sponges are versatile enough for both kitchen and bathroom cleaning, but it’s best to use separate sponges for hygiene reasons.

• Look for multi-purpose sponges that mention suitability for various surfaces in their product details.
• Color-coding your sponges or labeling them can help you keep track of which one is used where.
