Start with how and where you’ll use it. A good fit often comes down to a few basics:

• Document size: Look for interior dimensions that accommodate letter (8.5" x 11") or legal pages if required.
• Visibility: A clear front or window helps keep permits readable without opening.
• Weather protection: Features like overlapping lids, gaskets, or rain hoods can help in wet conditions.
• Mounting: Check for wall, fence, or post options. Some include a 4x4 post adapter.
• Durability: UV- and rust-resistant materials tend to hold up better outdoors.
• Closure: Choose latch or lock styles based on site access needs.

Local display rules can vary, so it’s wise to confirm requirements with your permitting office. For convenience, review delivery or pickup options on each product page.

1. Pick the spot: Choose a visible location with a stable footing and clearance to open the door.
2. Set the post: Install the 4x4 plumb and secure, then let concrete (if used) cure per manufacturer guidance.
3. Add the adapter: If your box includes a 4x4 adapter, align it and fasten using the recommended hardware.
4. Attach the box: Mount the enclosure to the adapter, ensuring it’s level and secure.
5. Check operation: Open/close the cover to confirm smooth access and document visibility.

Following the product’s instructions, using corrosion-resistant fasteners, and wearing appropriate protective gear can help provide a sturdy setup. Site conditions vary, so adjust placement as needed for best visibility and weather protection.

Weather protection can vary by model, but many permit boxes are designed with outdoor use in mind. For better protection, consider features such as:

• Covered or overlapping lids: Helps shed rain.
• Gasketed closures: Can reduce moisture intrusion.
• Corrosion-resistant materials: Metal finishes or plastics that stand up to the elements.

Placement matters too. Mounting under eaves, against a flat surface, or slightly angled can help limit direct exposure. Using a plastic document sleeve and keeping the cover closed when not viewing can further protect paperwork. Conditions differ by climate and site, so check each product’s details for specific weather features and inspect seals and fasteners periodically.

Most jobsite permit boxes are built with standard paperwork in mind, commonly letter-size (8.5" x 11") documents. Some options may accommodate legal-size pages or thicker permit packets, but capacities differ by model.

• Check interior dimensions: Compare the listed height, width, and depth to your permits.
• Consider thickness: If you post multiple pages or sleeves, look for deeper enclosures.
• Display needs: If the permit must be readable from the outside, look for a clear front or window.

To help avoid curled pages, add a firm backing (like a board inside the box) if compatible with the design. Always confirm sizing on the product page before ordering.

They serve different purposes:

• Permit posting box: Designed to display documents so they’re visible on site, often with a clear window or door for easy viewing and quick access.
• Donation or drop box: Built to collect items like payments, keys, or comments through a slot, usually secured with a lock. These typically don’t display paperwork for public viewing.

If you need permits visible to inspectors and visitors, a display-style permit box is usually more suitable. If your goal is secure collection, a drop box makes sense. Review photos and feature lists on each product page to confirm clear windows, slots, and mounting options before selecting.
