In landscaping, a tree ring is often called a mulch ring or tree edging ring. These rings are designed to create a neat border around the base of a tree, separating mulch, rocks, or soil from grass and other plants. They come in various materials, such as rubber, coconut fiber, or concrete, and help with weed control, moisture retention, and protecting tree roots from lawn equipment. Choosing the right style depends on your landscaping needs and the look you want for your outdoor space.

Concrete edging rings can be a practical choice for many yards. Here are some benefits:

• Durability: Concrete is sturdy and can last for years with minimal maintenance.
• Neat appearance: These rings create a clean, defined border around trees, helping your landscaping look organized.
• Protection: They can help prevent lawn equipment from damaging tree trunks and keep mulch or rocks in place.

However, installation requires some effort, and it's important to allow enough space for the tree's growth. Consider your yard’s needs before deciding if concrete edging is right for you.

Mulch rings can offer several advantages for trees:

• Weed suppression: They help block sunlight, reducing weed growth around the base.
• Moisture retention: Mulch helps soil retain water, which can benefit tree roots, especially in hot weather.
• Root protection: Rings create a buffer zone, reducing the risk of damage from mowers and trimmers.

While results can vary based on materials and installation, many gardeners find mulch rings useful for supporting healthy trees and improving landscape appearance.

Choosing the right size tree ring depends on your tree’s trunk diameter and the space you want to cover. Here are some tips:

• Measure the trunk: Start by measuring the tree’s base and add several inches to allow for root growth.
• Consider coverage: Select a ring that extends beyond the drip line (where branches end) for maximum protection.
• Check product details: Most rings list their diameter—choose one that fits your tree’s current size and allows for future growth.

This approach helps ensure your tree ring provides effective protection and looks great in your yard.
