Cloud DVR lets your security cameras save video footage online instead of just on a local device. When your camera detects motion or records continuously, the video is uploaded to a secure cloud server. This means you can access your recordings from anywhere using your phone or computer, as long as you have internet access. Benefits include:

• Remote viewing and playback
• Extra backup if your camera is damaged or stolen
• Easy sharing of clips with others

Just remember, cloud DVR usually requires a subscription and a stable internet connection for smooth uploads.

Yes, many security cameras support both cloud storage and SD cards at the same time. This gives you flexibility—your camera can save footage locally on the SD card and also back it up to the cloud. Why use both?

• SD cards provide quick, on-site access to recent recordings
• Cloud storage offers remote access and extra backup

Check your camera’s settings to make sure both options are enabled, and remember that SD cards have limited space, so older footage may be overwritten as new video is saved.

If your WiFi connection drops, most cloud DVR security cameras will stop uploading footage to the cloud until the internet is restored. However, many models can keep recording to an SD card or built-in storage during the outage. Once WiFi is back:

• Some cameras automatically upload missed footage to the cloud
• Others may only upload new recordings

It’s a good idea to check your camera’s manual to see how it handles internet interruptions, so you’re always covered.

Most cloud DVR security cameras send real-time alerts to your smartphone or email when they detect motion or sound. To receive these notifications:

1. Download the camera’s companion app
2. Connect your camera to WiFi and set up an account
3. Enable push notifications or email alerts in the app settings

You can usually customize what triggers an alert, like people, pets, or specific zones. This helps you stay informed about what’s happening at home, even when you’re away.

Many cloud DVR security cameras come with night vision, allowing them to record clear video even in low light or darkness. Night vision works by using infrared LEDs to illuminate the area without visible light. What to know:

• Night vision range varies by camera model
• Some cameras switch automatically between day and night modes
• Video quality at night may differ from daytime footage

Check the camera’s specifications to see if night vision is included and how far it can see in the dark.
