Before installing a ceiling poster or wall decal, start with a clean, dry surface to help the adhesive stick better and reduce the chance of posters falling. For peel-and-stick decals, gently press from the center outwards to avoid bubbles. If you’re using a lightweight poster, removable adhesive strips or putty work well without damaging walls. For larger or fine art prints, you might consider lightweight, reusable hooks or poster hangers designed for ceilings. Always read the product instructions for the best method and make sure there's nothing fragile below in case the poster shifts.

Glow-in-the-dark stickers and ceiling decals usually work best on smooth, flat surfaces. On textured ceilings, the adhesive may not contact all areas evenly, which can impact how well they stick. For textured surfaces, gently press each sticker to maximize contact, and consider doing a small test area first. If sticking is an issue, lightweight double-sided tape can help with extra hold, but check that it’s safe for your ceiling type to avoid marks or residue later.

Many glow-in-the-dark ceiling stars and planets need to absorb light before they’ll shine at night. For best results, let them soak up natural sunlight or bright indoor lighting for a few hours. The brighter and longer the exposure, the brighter and longer the glow. Keep in mind, they don’t contain batteries—just special pigments that store light energy and release it slowly in the dark.

To keep ceiling posters and decals looking fresh, gently dust them with a soft, dry cloth or microfiber duster. Avoid using water or cleaning sprays, as moisture can damage paper posters or loosen adhesive on decals. If you spot fingerprints or smudges on vinyl decals, a slightly damp (not wet) cloth can usually resolve it, taking care to avoid rubbing the edges. Always be gentle to prevent peeling or tearing.

Many peel-and-stick ceiling decals are designed to be removable and sometimes reusable, but how well they re-stick depends on the decal quality and how carefully they're removed. To move them, gently peel from one corner and avoid stretching. Reapply to a clean, dry surface for best results. Some decals may lose their adhesive strength after being moved, so check for product details and instructions, especially if you plan to reposition them often.
