A bobeche is a decorative ring or dish that sits around the base of a candle, typically on a candlestick or chandelier. Its main purpose is to catch dripping wax, helping to protect your tablecloths, furniture, or floors from stains and messes. Bobeches also add a stylish touch to your candle display, making them popular for events like weddings, dinners, and holiday gatherings. They're available in various materials, such as glass, acrylic, or metal, so you can match them to your decor or occasion.

The word "bobeche" comes from French, where it refers to a small ring or collar placed around a candle to catch drips of wax. In French decor and lighting, bobeches have been used for centuries as both practical and decorative accessories. Today, the term is widely used in English to describe these wax-catching rings found on candlesticks and chandeliers, especially in classic or vintage-style home decor.

Bobeches became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in Europe, as candle lighting was common in homes and public spaces. People wanted a way to protect their furniture and fine linens from wax drips, so artisans began crafting decorative rings to fit around candle holders. Over time, bobeches evolved from simple wax catchers to elegant glass or crystal accents, often seen on chandeliers and candelabras. Today, they're still used for both function and style in modern home decor.

Bobeches are designed to catch wax drips from taper candles or candlesticks, helping to keep surfaces cleaner. While they can't prevent all wax from escaping, especially if a candle burns unevenly, they do provide a helpful barrier that can minimize mess. For best results, make sure your bobeche fits snugly around the candle and is positioned flat on the holder. Regularly emptying and cleaning the bobeche can also help maintain its effectiveness.

To clean glass bobeches, let any wax cool and harden first. Gently remove the wax by hand or with a soft tool—avoid anything sharp that might scratch the glass. For stubborn spots, soak the bobeche in warm, soapy water to loosen residue. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots. Regular cleaning keeps your bobeches looking clear and sparkling, making them a beautiful addition to your candle displays.
