A bidirectional meter measures both the energy you use and the energy you send back to the grid or storage system. This is especially handy for homes with solar panels or battery storage, since it tracks power flowing in both directions. With these meters, you can monitor how much electricity you’re consuming versus how much you’re producing, helping you make informed decisions about your energy usage and savings. If you’re looking to better understand your home’s energy flow, a bidirectional meter is a great tool to have.

Yes, bidirectional meters are commonly used with solar panel systems.

• They track the electricity your panels generate and the power you use from the grid.
• This helps you see how much energy you’re producing versus consuming.
• Some models also let you monitor this data remotely through apps or display screens.

Most bidirectional meters feature digital displays or connect to apps that show your energy usage in real time.

• Look for readings labeled as ‘import’ (power you use) and ‘export’ (power you send back).
• Some models offer detailed breakdowns, including voltage, current, and total kilowatt-hours.
• If your meter supports WiFi or app monitoring, you can track your energy stats from your phone or computer.

Bidirectional meters are designed for safe operation in residential settings when installed and used according to manufacturer guidelines.

• They typically include protective features like overload detection and alarms.
• For any electrical work, it’s important to rely on qualified professionals to ensure proper installation and safety.

Many bidirectional meters now offer remote monitoring through WiFi or dedicated apps.

• This lets you check your energy usage, production, and other stats from your smartphone or computer.
• Some models even send alerts if unusual activity is detected.
