Running bibs are numbered identifiers that participants wear during races and athletic events. They help organizers track runners, record finish times, and ensure everyone is competing fairly. Bibs often include:

• Unique numbers for each participant
• Spaces for timing chips or barcodes
• Attachment points for safety pins or bib belts

Wearing a bib makes it easy for officials and spectators to identify runners. They're essential for everything from 5Ks to marathons and team sports events.

To attach a race bib securely, you can use safety pins or a bib belt. Here’s how:

1. Lay your shirt flat and position the bib on the front, usually centered on your chest or stomach.
2. Use four safety pins—one at each corner—to fasten the bib, making sure it’s flat and doesn’t bunch up.
3. If you prefer, use a running bib belt, which lets you clip the bib on without pins, reducing the risk of tearing your shirt.

Check that the bib is visible and comfortable before your event starts.

Some running bibs are designed for single use, especially those made from lightweight paper or fabric. However, many bibs available today are made from tear-resistant, waterproof materials and can be reused for multiple events. Reusable bibs are especially common for training, team sports, or events where you need numbered identifiers regularly. Always check the product description to see if the bib is intended for one-time or repeated use.

Whether you can wash your running bib depends on the material.

• Paper bibs are generally not washable and may tear or lose their print if exposed to water.
• Fabric or waterproof bibs can often be gently hand-washed with mild soap and air-dried.

While both bibs and pinnies are used for identification in sports, they serve different purposes.

• Running bibs are numbered tags pinned or clipped to your shirt for races and competitions.
• Pinnies (or training vests) are sleeveless, colored mesh garments worn over clothing to distinguish teams during practice or games.
