Choosing the right fishing line size depends on your target fish and fishing style. Here are a few tips:

• Check your reel: Most reels list recommended line sizes for best performance.
• Consider your catch: Lighter lines (like 6 lb) are great for smaller fish, while heavier lines suit bigger species.
• Think about water type: Thinner lines work well in clear water, while stronger lines are better for heavy cover or saltwater.

Review product details and match the line to your rod and reel for a balanced setup.

Braided and fluorocarbon lines each have unique benefits:

• Braided line: Known for its strength and thin diameter, it’s great for casting long distances and fishing in heavy cover.
• Fluorocarbon line: Nearly invisible underwater, making it ideal for clear water and cautious fish. It also sinks faster than braided line.

Choosing between them depends on your fishing conditions and personal preference. Many anglers use both, pairing braided main line with a fluorocarbon leader.

Spooling new line is simple with a few steps:

1. Open the bail (for spinning reels) or thread the line through the guides (for baitcasters).
2. Tie the line to the spool using an arbor knot.
3. Hold the line taut and turn the reel handle to wind the line evenly.
4. Fill the spool to about 1/8 inch from the edge—don’t overfill.

Keeping tension on the line helps prevent tangles and ensures smooth casting.

Some fishing lines are designed for both freshwater and saltwater use, but it’s important to check the product details. Saltwater can be tough on gear, so lines labeled for saltwater are made to resist corrosion and abrasion. If you fish in both environments, rinse your gear with fresh water after saltwater use to help extend the life of your line and tackle.

Proper storage helps maintain your fishing line’s strength and flexibility. Here’s how:

• Keep it cool and dry: Store line away from direct sunlight and heat, which can weaken it over time.
• Use a spool box: Organizers help prevent tangles and keep different line sizes separated.
• Avoid moisture: Make sure the storage area is dry to prevent mold or mildew.

Regularly check your line for signs of wear before each trip for the best performance.
