Adhesive labels are handy for organizing, identifying, and personalizing items at home, work, or school. You can use them to:

• Label storage bins, folders, or pantry containers
• Mark prices for garage sales or events
• Create name badges for meetings or parties
• Reinforce punched holes in paper
• Sort craft supplies or office materials

Since they come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, adhesive labels offer a flexible way to keep things neat and easy to find.

Making your own sticky labels is simple and lets you customize them for any project. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Choose blank adhesive labels in the size and shape you need.
2. Write directly on the label with a pen or marker, or print designs using a compatible printer.
3. Peel the label from its backing and stick it onto your chosen surface.

For best results, apply labels to clean, dry surfaces. This helps them stick better and last longer.

Labels come in several types, each designed for different uses. Common types include:

• Removable labels: Easy to peel off without leaving residue, great for temporary use.
• Permanent labels: Designed to stay put and resist removal.
• Name badge labels: Used for events or meetings, often easy to write on.
• Reinforcement labels: Small rings that strengthen punched holes in paper.

Choosing the right type depends on your project and how long you need the label to stay in place.

The difference comes down to the type of adhesive used. Permanent labels use a strong adhesive that’s meant to stay put and can be difficult to remove. Removable labels use a gentler adhesive, so you can peel them off cleanly without damaging surfaces or leaving sticky residue. If you’re labeling something temporarily or want to reuse the item, removable labels are a good choice. For long-term labeling, permanent options work best.

Some adhesive labels are designed specifically for fabric, like no-iron fabric labels, which can be applied directly to clothing or other textiles. These are great for labeling kids’ clothes, uniforms, or linens. However, standard paper or plastic labels may not stick well to fabric or could come off in the wash. Always check the label’s packaging to see if it’s suitable for fabric use, and follow any instructions for best results.
