Lubricant sprays are handy for a variety of car maintenance tasks. You can use them to help loosen rusted bolts, quiet squeaky hinges, and protect metal parts from moisture. They're also useful for freeing up sticky locks and lubricating moving parts like door latches or hood releases. Always check your vehicle's manual for any specific recommendations before applying a lubricant, and avoid spraying on surfaces like brake pads or rotors. Using a lubricant spray as part of your regular maintenance can help keep your car running smoothly and prevent minor issues from becoming bigger problems.

Choosing the right product depends on what you need to do.

• For general tasks like loosening stuck parts or protecting metal, a multi-use formula is a solid choice.
• If you're working with electrical components, look for a product labeled as an electrical contact cleaner.
• For water resistance or silicone needs, a specialist silicone lubricant may be best.
• For heavy-duty jobs, consider a penetrant or white lithium grease spray.

Not all lubricant sprays are designed for electrical use. If you need to clean or protect electrical contacts, choose a product specifically labeled as an electrical contact cleaner. These are formulated to remove dirt and moisture without leaving a residue that could interfere with connections. Always disconnect power before applying any spray to electrical parts, and let everything dry completely before restoring power. Using the right product can help maintain your vehicle's electrical systems without causing damage.

Proper storage helps keep your lubricant sprays effective and safe.

• Store cans upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
• Keep them out of reach of children and pets.
• Avoid storing near open flames or in areas where temperatures can get very high, like inside a car during summer.

Yes, many multi-purpose lubricant sprays are great for quieting squeaky car doors and hinges. Just spray a small amount on the hinge or latch, then open and close the door a few times to work it in. Wipe away any excess to avoid attracting dust or dirt. If the squeak persists, you may need to repeat the process or check for worn parts. Always follow the instructions on the can for best results and avoid spraying on surfaces that shouldn't be lubricated, like upholstery or painted areas.
