An OBD2 scanner plugs into your car’s diagnostic port and reads data from the vehicle’s onboard computer. Here’s what it can help with:

• Check engine light: It can tell you why the light is on by reading error codes.
• Live data: Some scanners show real-time info like engine speed and temperature.
• Reset functions: Many models let you clear codes and reset warning lights after repairs.
• System checks: Advanced tools can check ABS, transmission, and other systems.

Using a scanner can help you understand your car’s health and decide if you need professional repairs.

Most OBD2 scanners are compatible with cars made after 1996, but it’s smart to double-check. Here’s how you can check compatibility:

• Look for your car’s make, model, and year in the scanner’s compatibility list.
• Check if your vehicle uses the standard OBD2 port (usually under the dashboard).
• Some advanced features, like ECU programming, may only work with certain brands or models.

If you’re unsure, you can review the product details or ask a Walmart associate for help before buying.

Many OBD2 scanners let you reset certain warning lights, like the check engine or oil change reminders. Here’s what to keep in mind:

• Basic models usually reset engine-related lights.
• Advanced scanners may also reset ABS, airbag, or maintenance lights.
• It’s important to address the underlying issue before clearing a warning light, as resetting alone won’t fix the problem.

Always follow your vehicle’s manual and use the tool as directed for best results.

Wired and Bluetooth OBD2 scanners both read your car’s data, but they connect differently:

• Wired scanners: Plug directly into your car and display info on a built-in screen. They’re simple and don’t require extra devices.
• Bluetooth scanners: Connect to your smartphone or tablet via an app. They’re portable and often offer more features, but you’ll need a compatible device and app.

Choosing between them depends on your comfort with technology and how you prefer to view your car’s information.

Most OBD2 code readers are designed for everyday drivers and don’t require advanced skills. Here’s what you can expect:

• Plug the scanner into your car’s OBD2 port (usually under the dashboard).
• Follow on-screen prompts or app instructions to read codes and view data.
• Some advanced features, like ECU programming, may require more technical know-how or research.

If you’re new to these tools, start with basic functions and consult the user manual or online guides for extra help.
