Ford Explorer 2010 V8.
While I did get this installed, it was not easy. An OEM FOMOCO 8L24-8005 (8L2Z same) has a bit thinner core, ans rounded corners on the bottom tank. This profile fits the frame and rubber bottom mounts in the radiator frame perfectly.
HOWEVER the Spectra Premium has a thicker core and squared corners on the bottom tank. This creates a fitment issue.
The Spectra bottom oval "feet" would not line up with the oval frame holes. The square bottom forces the frame apart by about 1/8" on each side. If you try to force fit it, the AC condenser pegs will not fit into the frame holes fofreeze.
It will not work to file down the radiator oval feet. You'll have to remove the whole radiator frame and make modifications. You have to remove the rubber mounts from the frame sides, and with a razor knife, carefully remove 1/8" of rubber to shape the rubber square and test fit as you go the frames, so the rubber mount can fit properly around the bottom tank oval feet. This will then give you the fit needed for the condenser. It takes time and precision work si not to ruin the rubber mounts.
Also the wider core , while it fits, requires the two frame bolts which hold it to the car to be removed, then to suspend the condenser, suspend the radiator, and manipulate the whole hanging mess just to get the bottom part of the radiator core inserted into place. It eas a real cluster freek.
The OEM radiator transmission cooler is attached to the radiator and you can remove both connectors without leak issue. On the Spectra, the cooler is loose in the bottom tank and if you remove the line connectors, the cooler falls back from the holes. Again it's a quality issue if you want to change the connectors later, you will have to drain the system. Not an issue with OEM.
After installed, the radiator does function properly, and time will tell on how long it lasts.
PROS 1/3 price of OEM. Cooler line threads same as OEM. Bigger core than OEM. Same fluid volume as OEM. The only after-market model rated for Ford Explorer's higher 20psi sysrem. With work, it will install and cool well.
CONS. Not an exact fit. Hard hasstle install. Disappointing quality issues.. Cap needs to be worked back and forth until it will fit easily.
POSSIBLE CON Inlet and outlet hose mount is 1.5 inch while OEM is 1.52 inch. Might need different hose clamps if your hoses are too loose.
