Great on the whole

My wife and I really like this rack. The two bike limit on a rack with three bicycle holders might seem strange, but it allows for better flexibility and balance which we appreciate. The clips slide around a bit and are somewhat difficult to set up correctly on the first try, but once they're on the rack is very sturdy. I was very apprehensive about putting bikes on the back of our small Honda Fit, but they rode very well and we survived our move from Chicago to Saint Paul with our bikes intact!

Good solid rack; arm placement could be an issue

I purchased the Saris Bones 3 from an independent dealer in town, and so far I've been impressed. The installation was pretty easy and it seems to be much more sturdy than my previous rack, the Thule 910xt Passage. I like the fact that the legs are much wider when sitting on the bumper, so there is better weight distribution and making it less likely that the weight of the bikes will warp the shape of the bumper (something that the Thule rack did on my Nissan Sentra). One thing that I was unsure of at first was the fit of the two top arms. In many videos, the top arms are placed as close to the end of the top of the trunk door as possible. For my 2009 Nissan Sentra, this is not possible because the arms would extend out halfway beyond the trunk door and onto the rear windshield. Also, if I installed it this way, the bottom feet would be in so much that I couldn't easily close the trunk door. I tried numerous positioning of the top and bottom legs to adapt, but this was not possible. The best fit for me was to drop the top legs down one notch so that the top arms are a little less than half way down the top of the trunk. With the 6 adjustment straps tight though, the rack isn't going anywhere. After installation, I was anxious to take it out for a test drive, so I mounted my bike and drove out on various road conditions to see how it performed. I would run over bumps on purpose. The bike didn't move and the rack did not shift at all.
