The bottom portion actually looked better than I expected for such an inexpensive product. (Yes, even though the description says "green" and the photo looks blue, the bottom portion is blue - and a pretty blue.) The middle and upper sections were plain gray. But I thought that maybe once the water was going those parts would not be visible. The fountain comes with a choice of tops, each which would make the water come out a different way. With the yellow, star-shaped top in place, the water flowed neatly out of the five spouts in the star from the top level to the middle to the bottom. It just flowed straight down, looking okay. The tumbling water was caught in the bottom tier and sent back up the middle to be tumbled down again. The mechanics worked. However, we wanted the true "fountain" effect so put the other piece on top. The water looked beautiful spraying up high, arcing, and falling. On the ground. The water spray was so strong that almost none of it fell into the bottom, meaning that within a couple of minutes there would be no water to draw from to keep the fountain going. We tried adjusting the top, adjusting anything; there was no way to get that fountain of water to land in the bottom - the bottom was much too small. This item was a great idea, and we got a hint of how beautiful it would look if it actually worked ...but it didn't. At least, not in the fountain mode, and the star mode was not impressive enough for us to want to keep this. The good news was that Walmart took it back, no questions asked, and we got a full refund almost immediately. If the company making this product would improve it - making the bottom larger and having more colorful upper tiers - I would buy it again.
