OBD Cable(1000+)

An OBD cable connects your vehicle’s diagnostic port to a tool or accessory so you can access useful data without digging into the engine bay. Depending on the cable, it can:

• Link a scanner to the 16‑pin port on most OBD2 vehicles to read and clear codes or view live data.
• Adapt older or specialized ports (like certain OBD1 or heavy‑duty connectors) to OBD2 tools.
• Extend or relocate the port using low‑profile extensions for a cleaner setup.
• Split the port so two devices can be connected with a Y‑cable.
• Provide power to devices such as dash cams via OBD‑to‑USB leads.

For safety, route cables away from pedals and sharp edges, and consider unplugging accessories when not in use to reduce standby draw.

OBD stands for On‑Board Diagnostics. It’s a system built into vehicles that monitors and reports on engine and emissions performance. The modern standard, OBD2, uses a 16‑pin connector (usually under the dash) and allows compatible tools to read trouble codes, view sensor data, and check readiness monitors.

• OBD1: Earlier vehicles may use model‑specific connectors and protocols.
• OBD2: A common, standardized interface for many vehicles, supported by a wide range of scanners and cables.
• Adapters and extensions: Available to bridge older connectors, relocate the port, or connect additional accessories.

On Walmart.com, you’ll find scanners, extension leads, splitters, and specialized adapters that work with different diagnostic ports and use cases.

Many passenger vehicles built for the U.S. market since 1996 support OBD2, which uses a 16‑pin trapezoid‑shaped port under the dash. To check your vehicle:

• Look for the port near the steering column or lower dash area.
• Confirm in your owner’s manual that it references OBD2 or a 16‑pin diagnostic connector.
• Review product details on Walmart.com; many scanners note coverage for vehicles from 1996 and newer.

If your vehicle is older, a powersports model, or a heavy‑duty truck, it may use a different connector or protocol. In those cases, consider an appropriate adapter (e.g., OBD1‑to‑OBD2 or heavy‑duty interfaces). When in doubt, double‑check compatibility info before purchasing.

Start with how you plan to use it, then match features to your needs:

• Basic code readers help identify and clear check‑engine light codes and view I/M readiness.
• App‑based tools (Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi) pair with a phone for live data and customizable dashboards. Check mobile OS compatibility.
• Advanced scanners may access more systems (ABS, airbag, steering) and offer service functions like oil reset, brake service, or sensor calibrations.
• Bi‑directional tests and special functions can be useful for deeper diagnostics; coverage varies by vehicle.
• Updates and ease of use: Look for lifetime updates, clear menus, and good documentation.

Accessories like low‑profile extensions or Y‑splitters can help with tidy installs. Compare specs and customer reviews on Walmart.com to choose a fit that aligns with your vehicle and goals.

Yes, many OBD power cables convert the vehicle’s 12–24V supply to 5V for dash cams, often with USB‑C or USB connectors. This setup can enable parking or 24‑hour monitoring, but it’s important to choose thoughtfully:

• Connector and output: Match the plug type and current your camera requires.
• Low‑profile plug: Helps keep the driver’s footwell clear and tidy.
• Protection features: Overcurrent protection or a voltage display can add peace of mind.
• Battery considerations: Some cables draw power when parked; if your vehicle sits for long periods, consider unplugging or using a cutoff feature.

Always follow your dash cam and vehicle guidelines, and route cables safely away from pedals and moving parts.
