Most people find that replacing a garbage can depends on how often it's used and the material it's made from. Here are some signs it might be time for a new one:

• Cracks or holes: These can cause leaks and odors.
• Broken lids or wheels: If parts aren't working, it can be tough to use.
• Persistent odors: Even after cleaning, some smells just won't go away.
• Wear and tear: Faded, brittle, or warped bins may not hold up well.

Checking your garbage can every year or two can help you decide when it's time for a replacement.

Choosing the right size replacement bin depends on your space and how much trash you generate. Here are a few tips:

• Measure your cabinet or trash area to make sure the new bin fits.
• Check your current bin's capacity (usually listed in quarts or gallons).
• Think about your household size—larger families may need bigger bins.
• Consider your trash pickup schedule—if it's less frequent, a larger bin might help.

Always double-check product dimensions before buying to avoid returns.

Yes, you can often find replacement parts like lids, wheels, and inner bins for many trash cans at Walmart. Here’s what to look for:

• Check your trash can’s brand and model to match parts correctly.
• Look for universal parts if your model isn’t listed.
• Read product descriptions to confirm compatibility with your bin.

Replacement parts can help extend the life of your garbage can and save you from buying a whole new one.

Keeping your garbage bin clean can help prevent odors and pests. Here’s a simple way to do it:

1. Empty the bin completely.
2. Rinse it with warm water.
3. Scrub with mild soap or a gentle cleaner using a brush.
4. Rinse thoroughly and let it air dry.

For stubborn smells, sprinkle baking soda in the bottom before adding a new bag. Regular cleaning can help your bin last longer and keep your space fresh.

Recycling an old trash can depends on the material and your local recycling program. Here are some general tips:

• Plastic bins: Check for a recycling symbol and contact your local facility to see if they accept large items.
• Metal cans: Many scrap yards or recycling centers take metal bins.
• Repurpose: Old bins can be used for storage or yard waste if recycling isn’t an option.

Always remove any non-recyclable parts, like wheels or handles, before recycling.
